In Spetember 2024, I participated in the European Society for Agricultural and Food Ethics’ conference ‘EurSafe2024’. This year’s theme was the ethics of novel food production and consumption scenarios. This included proposals to address the vulnerability of food systems, the environmental impact of food production, and long-term impact of climate change on food security and sovereignty. As part of the workshop “Do Cells Dream of Food Futures?” organised by Dr Zoe Robaey and Dr Mariana Hase Ueta, I presented about ‘rethinking risk perception’ and made the case for a holistic understanding of food safety in the sustainable food system. During my talk, I emphasised the need to consider our identities as ‘citizens’ and ‘eaters’ next to the ‘consumer’ identity’. The presentation elicited many interesting questions and comments and led to fruitful discussions.
